SportsBetGuide FR
Can I bet directly on SportsBetGuide FR?
No, and that will not change. SportsBetGuide FR is an editorial publication: we accept no stakes, hold no player funds, open no accounts and offer no betting activity. All betting takes place exclusively with a licensed operator, on its own service.
How does SportsBetGuide FR make money?
Through commercial links to the operators we cover: when a reader opens an account after following one of our links, the operator pays us a commission. This income influences neither the scores nor the ranking. Full details are on our Disclosure page.
Who writes the reviews?
SportsBetGuide FR’s in-house newsroom, based in Paris. We accept no outside contributions, no sponsored content written by a third party and no unmoderated public comments. Every review is the house’s own work.
How often is the content updated?
Odds sampling is weekly. Licences are re-verified each quarter against the ANJ register. Full reviews are rewritten at least once a year, and immediately in the event of a major regulatory change.
The legal framework in France
What is the minimum age for betting in France?
18 years old. Sports betting is strictly prohibited for minors, without exception. Licensed operators check your identity and date of birth during account verification, which is mandatory before any withdrawal.
What is the ANJ?
The Autorité Nationale des Jeux is France’s gambling regulator, created in 2020 to replace ARJEL. It issues licences, supervises operators, regulates advertising and works to protect vulnerable audiences.
How can I check that an operator really is licensed?
Consult the ANJ’s public register: it lists every operator authorised in France, with its registered company name and associated domain. Each entry in our comparison links straight to that register for an independent check.
What is the risk with an unlicensed operator?
No protection for deposited funds, no recourse to the gambling ombudsman, no guarantee on the fairness of the odds or on the payment of winnings. We list licensed brands only, for precisely that reason.
Money, tax and moderation
Are winnings taxable in France?
For an individual bettor, winnings from sports betting are in principle not subject to income tax: the tax is levied upstream at the operator. Activity carried out on a habitual and organised basis can, however, be reclassified. If in doubt, consult a tax adviser or your local public finance office.
Why am I asked for identity documents?
Identity verification — ID card, proof of address, sometimes bank details — is a legal obligation imposed on licensed operators. It serves to check age, to counter money laundering and to make sure funds go to the right account holder. Get it out of the way early: your first withdrawal depends on it.
Can I set a deposit limit?
Yes, and it is strongly recommended. Every licensed operator must offer you deposit and stake limits, adjustable from your account area. Raising a limit is subject to a mandatory cooling-off period; lowering one takes effect immediately.
How do I request self-exclusion?
You can request a temporary exclusion directly from the operator, or a national gambling ban from the ANJ. The latter applies across every licensed operator in France, for a renewable three-year period. Our Responsible gambling page sets out the procedure.
